Will The Last of Us: Remastered’s Photo Mode Create an Exploit?

"Say cheese", said Joel to every enemy in the area.

[Let me preface this article by saying that as I am based in the EU, I don't yet have access to TLoU:R just yet but having said that, our resident Canadian here on Takuchat.com, Phantomlink, has confirmed that my theory is correct.]

lastofus 3When Naughty Dog revealed that TLoU:R would include a photo mode I was delighted as I had fallen in love with the feature since it was added to inFamous: Second Son but then I began to think, will the photo mode make listening redundant? At the click of the L3 button I’ll be able to pause the action, orbit the camera around Joel and see around walls. You might say ‘that’s nuts, that’s way too much effort when I can just press one button to listen?’ and you’d be right except for when you’re playing on the Survivor or the new Grounded difficulty settings, both of which remove Joel’s ability to ‘listen’ and see through walls. That is where a person may resort to using the photo mode as a means to provide them with information they wouldn’t otherwise know, using the photo mode in a way that it wasn’t intended to be used.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, nobody will be putting a gun to our head making us use the exploit, I am merely pointing out that it exists and that it may cheapen a few trophies.

Will you be using photo mode to help you out or will you be a purist and save it for making Joel and Ellie look fabulous?

Who cares how other people play single player its their game shut up

    • GUN®

Who cares how other people write articles? It’s their article, shut up.

Maybe he cares because he’s a gamer and he’s competitive (like me) and he thinks games/trophies should be fair for all?

I didn’t even think about this exploit, but this article is right..it could be exploited. I definitely won’t be using it..I actually like to play the game the way it was meant to be played and actually challenge myself.. (hate glitchers / cheaters / trolls…all in the same category in my book..losers), but ND can’t disable it because that would prevent people from using it just because they’re playing survivor mode. Oh well, let the losers continue to be losers. The gamers will continue to be gamers. :)

      This I like

its an exploit only if you choose to do it and if you are a trophy whore or a cheater or a n00b or some other kind of human failure

  • Marc Emmerson

you bugger! ;-) they’ll remove it from survivor and grounded mode now!!!

    • GUN®

Maybe they’ll just disable trophies while it’s active in those 2 modes? Or maybe they won’t care? :P

Seriously, that is pretty “gamebreaking” for the hard mode, takes out the whole hard part.

    • GUN®

Again, not forced to do it at all so I wouldn’t say ‘gamebreaking’.

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Well yeah it is not forced, but it really does break hard mode, people who use it shouldnt get the same credit as those who dont

    • GUN®

Still, break is too harsh of a word, it makes survivor and grounded mode easier. You still have to deal with lack of supplies and super tough enemies.

Maybe trophies should be disabled while it’s active in those 2 difficulty modes to make things fair but at the end of the day I wonder if many people care how you got your trophies.

I know I got all the blast shards in inFamous 2 by just playing a UGC mission that collected them all for me, easiest gold I ever got.
