Pokémon X and Y Legendary Creature Names Unveiled
Pokémon news and information site Serebii.net and the official Pokémon website have revealed that the names for the primary legendary creatures in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are to be, respectively, Xerneas (ZURR-nee-us) and Yveltal (ee-VELL-tall).
This is to be only the second time a Pokémon has been given a name beginning with X, the other being Xatu, and likewise only the fourth time a Pokémon has had a species name beginning with Y (as confirmed by the previous link).

Off the record
It took me about five seconds to go from being confused by the names to loving them. I especially admire Yveltal’s pronunciation, and “Xerneas” has its own majesty as well; the latter creature itself looks a bit too similar to Dialga, but this is offset by Dialga being one of my favorite Pokémon anyway. To be perfectly honest, while I love dragons and Dragon-type Pokémon, I am pleased to see that, for the sake of diversity, the two new primary legends don’t heavily resemble dragons, given that the current generation of Pokémon games gave us the most new Dragon-type Pokémon as is and had plenty of Dragon-type legendary Pokémon to offer. To say I’m looking forward to additional information on these creatures and on the new Pokémon series entries in general is an understatement.
