happier sadder than I am at this moment.
UPDATE: Teruzane just LOLJK’ed us.
I apologize for what I said. I was little confused when asked whether we would be involved in Kingdom Hearts III. As of now it’s undecided.

That’s right! Kingdom Hearts III will have Hikki returning to write two more new songs. Because I want this to be a decent size article, let’s list five of my fave Hikki songs.
The fact that they didn’t release this as a single in spite of it being the best track on This is the One still pisses me off to this day. I really think this had mainstream appeal and it could have been a smash hit.
I know you like Simple and Clean. This is categorically better. With Simple and Clean, it felt like Hikaru was playing it safe and making a nice pop song for the American audience. With Hikari, she absolutely belts out that chorus with so much emotion that you can’t help but be drawn in. And don’t even get me started on the lyrics…
Yeah, sometimes she sounds like this. This is another song that never got released as a single, though I can understand it a bit more for this record. Deep River is one of my favorite as well as one of her strongest records; honestly they prolly could have released every track as a single.
And sometimes she sounds like this. I love hard femme Hikki. Again, not released as a single, but I think this one is more to do with the shock that people would have had from hearing this on the radio. Whenever I play this for my friends they always are completely shocked.
I absolutely love that bridge! If you were to ask me why Hikaru is my favorite singer of all time, I would probably play this song for you.
Also, EMI sucks. They
made this much harder to write than it needed to be. effectively neutered my article :<
I’m super happy that Hikki is coming back for KH3. In spite of that, I’m actually okay with her not coming back past that. First off, she writes all of her own songs. I don’t know if you’ve ever written a song but that ish is hard. Now imagine doing in it two languages. Plus overachiever that she is, she didn’t write Simple and Clean and then transliterate it into Japanese, she went and wrote a brand new song in Hikari (and if you haven’t read the translation, I suggest you do so. Categorically. Better.) On top of that, KH3 has already been stated to be the culmination of the Dark Seeker Trilogy, so KH4 will be a new take on the franchise. So why not make a fully clean break and have someone like BoA or Angela Aki (both fluent in English) step in for the next three?
On a more serious note, I’m wondering what kind of song Hikaru will give us for the last game in the trilogy. I think that KH3 is likely to be the darkest entry in the series thus far, something that might unfortunately match with Hikki’s emotional state right now. You see, on August 22nd her mother committed suicide after an apparent bout with mental illness. In her first statement afterward, Hikaru stated that she was “beyond sad” and felt a lot of remorse. In her previous works, her life has somewhat reflected the tone of her music; when she go married her songs were one way, when she got divorced, another. So emotionally, I’m curious as to what she’ll bring to the table for us this time. No doubt that it will be brilliant.
