AMD is bringing some amazing hair to PC’s this year with the latest Tomb Raider reboot.

I find it interesting that only now we see amazing technology like this, it’s very reminiscent of the hair found in Square’s Agni’s Philosophy. All strands, no polygons. Oh wait, I guess it likely is?

“Through painstaking collaboration between software developers at AMD and Crystal Dynamics, Tomb Raider proudly features the world’s first real-time hair rendering technology in a playable game”

And since Crystal Dynamics is housed under Square you can speculate that  it has to be the same tech, right?

So we might find this same technology should the game see a next-gen console release. With the PS4 having AMD inside, and the Agni’s Philosophy demo confirmed to be running on the PS4 I have high expectations for this.

Want to get an idea of it in action? There have been tech demos of this since at least 2010. If anything, I’m Glad we can finally see this sort of stuff become common place.

Maybe we’ll have less hairless soldiers and more golden locks? Please?

Check out the images below, along with some AP screens to compare.
