Admin Post: Introducing Takuchat Topics!

Notice the change to the site? Categories is now gone and a “topics” menu has been added above. Now there’s no point in making a change without explaining it so I’ll go over the idea.

You see for a long time I’ve been thinking of how to bring more attention to our Takuchat Exclusive content or in other words the things our users create. You see news is come and go, it comes we talk about it, and then it passes as new stuff comes out. But a lot of the unique stuff we create is more than that, things that might warrant more discussion or talk about things that could be important for any day. Yet because of how the front page works they’re come and go just like news. And the only way people can find your post is through search or browsing pages, that’s far too much work for a casual viewer.

So I found the best way would be to put those user articles front and center all the time. And also create a bit of a standard on posting these.

The “Topics” menu above is my idea.

This brings a bit more focus to our reviews, articles for discussion, and whatever we create. But I’m also bringing to light something we commonly do already and should do more often. Occasionally when we make a review we tend state that in the title like for instance “Review: Ninokuni” or “Music Drop: Anamanaguchi introduces ‘Meow’ ” some thing like that. This is something i think should continue but for everything exclusive to us. It further separates our own articles from just news and gives an idea what the content is. And of course have a category associated with it as well.  And this also should make Google searches nicer too.

That said let me describe what each Topic means. This will also be on the pages themselves.

Discussion:

This is Discussion, where opinions dwell. Here people in our community express their views or ideas on generally whatever.  As long as it pertains to Geek or Otaku live style then by all means write your views here.

But if your views are unpopular or you’re just looking for attention please attach “Flame-bait:” to your title, that way everyone knows what they’re getting into and can’t complain.

Review:

These are our community reviews, whatever the topic if it’s a review you’ll find it here.

Be it gaming, food, or a new anime you can write a review of it and always find it here once it slips off the front page.

Preview:

Previews encompass anything user made relating to a game that hasn’t been fully released yet.

So that means if you got into a beta and posted some videos of you playing it on YouTube then yeah you could totally post it here and categorize it under “Previews”. Along with other things like if you want to express ideas or concerns about an up coming title based on what you’ve played or something along those lines.

Project:

Here the projects reside! Whatever they may be! Building a gaming computer? Going through a Big Boss run through MGS4? Yeah that kinda stuff, stuff you just gotta tell people about.

Those are projects.

Media Drop:

We’ve all got our own tastes, what are you into? Make/Check out a Music Drop, Art Drop, Whatever drop! You might find something new or introduce the world to a new thing!

Whatever you want to show us, some concept art, a group or band you like or hell even your own work feel free to post it here. This is media drop, so if it’s just art and media categorize it here.

Humor:

This is Humor, obviously people love to post funny stuff so we gave it spot, enjoy.

NSFW (Not Safe For Work) is a subject we permit here which is for suggestive content and no more…

NSFW can mean too much blood, too much skin, or too much nasty, just don’t go overboard. If you think it’s too much it likely is but in EVERY case we require the use of NSFW tags which will hide said NSFW content.

Admin Post:

Here Takuchat Admins will post notifications or whatever about Takuchats on goings, we’re pretty open so we’ll always keep people up to date.

This is also where we might post some goods you might enjoy, just keep an eye out for an admin post always good stuff.

Initial Questions

What about other categories?

Still use those, if you like they do improve search results. But these if anything should be the most important along with tags. And of course regular news articles should use the other categories as well.

Does my post tag HAVE to be one of these?

No it doesn’t, a wallpaper drop can be called “Wallpaper Drop:” and be placed under media drop, or “Flamebait:” can be placed under discussion. It’s up to you how to handle this, and it’s not required either. In then end you can do what you like, this is just my recommendation. But if we’re all doing the same thing it increases the likely hood of your article being found rather than being different.

I made a post before that would fit into one of these and it’s not there now…

I did my best to merge a few categories to fill these up a bit. But I couldn’t reach everything if you want something to fit into one of these edit your article categories to fit into one of the above.

Can I have an article fit multiple Topics?

I would prefer that you didn’t, but we won’t stop you. These should fit most needs alone. A “Media Drop” does not need to be attached to “Discussion” if you know what I mean. This is all about focus after all.
